We will be 100% outdoors. That means rain, snow, or shine. In the event of inclement weather we will reschedule to a pre-set rain/snow date.
Dress according to the weather.
• On rainy days wear a rain jacket and rain boots.
• On cold days wear extra layers to stay warm! (i.e. have a hat, mittens, scarf, and snow boots if necessary.)
• Students should wear clothes they don’t mind getting dirty.
• Students should wear comfortable shoes. It is important to have sturdy footwear for hiking. Sneakers are recommended. DO NOT wear flip-flops, open sandals, or shoes with slippery bottoms.
• Do not bring insect repellant with your child. Spraying chemicals on TNC property causes harm to our native species, please apply insect repellant before coming to TNC.
• Tips for Cold Weather: Here are some friendly tips to consider for when you start your day in the winter
Drop-Off
Students will be dropped off in our cul-de-sac each session.
Cars will line up single file along Hudson Avenue leading up to the cul-de-sac.
We ask that you wait patiently until you can pull up to the check-in cones. There, TNC staff will determine if the student passes the temperature screening.
Parents are more than welcome to hike the trails or get coffee while they wait for their children. Parents/guardians will not be allowed to sit in on sessions.
Pick-up
Similar to drop-off, pick-up will be done in the cul-de-sac.
At dismissal, we ask that you please arrive promptly on time and we will sign your child out using our Drop-off/Pick-Up Sheet. TNC will not release a child to an individual other than the adult who registered the student.
To be able to provide a safe and secure environment for our students, individuals authorized for School Enrichment pick-up must be emailed to programs@tenaflynaturecenter.org with the first and last name of the authorized individual for our records.
If we do not have the necessary written permission, the primary contact will be notified and they will need to take the necessary steps to ensure their child’s safety. Individuals authorized for pick-up MUST bring a valid ID.
A late pick-up fee of $20 for every 15 minute period will apply to children who are picked up late.
If your child is going to be absent or arriving after start of program for ANY reason, please contact the Nature Center office at (201) 568-6093. You may leave a message if your call is outside office hours-please try to call before 8:30 am each day your child will be absent.
Refunds will not be given for absence and we do not prorate.
We understand families may be in a rush on their way to work, so please allow yourself extra time in the morning for this new check-in process.
TNC will follow all CDC guidelines, and NJDOH requirements. We will update our policies as more information comes out from these sources.
We want to be as transparent as possible and will keep open communications with families to be sure everyone is comfortable and on the same page.
TNC staff will be trained on the basic principles of emergency first aid, blood borne pathogens, infection control, hand washing practices, personal protective equipment (PPE) and COVID-19 signs and symptoms.
Each session TNC staff will conduct a temperature screening before all sessions. If an individual has a temperature reading of 100.4°F we will conduct another reading. If it confirms 100.4°F or higher then that family will not be allowed into TNC premises.
Students will not be allowed to attend the enrichment program if they have a fever of 100.4°F or above or the following symptoms:
• Chills or fever
• Cough
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Muscle or body aches
• Headache
• Fatigue
• New loss of taste or smell
• Sore throat
• Congestion or runny nose
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhea
• A rash
• Red draining eyes
• Thick yellow or green nasal discharge
We will only be running one school enrichment session at a time.
Each session will have a maximum of 14 participants and 2 staff. Pick-up and Drop-off only.
Parents are encouraged to get a drink of coffee or hike the trails while they wait for their child. We do not allow unregistered siblings to sit in on programs.
School Enrichment activities are designed to promote social distancing, however, following the NJDOH requirements, when social distancing cannot be observed face coverings will be required. TNC staff will wear face covering upon drop off and pickup up, and in any situation they are unable to keep proper distance.
TNC staff keeps hand sanitizer in their first aid kits to be used throughout the day.
If any student does not wish to use hand sanitizer and would prefer to wash at the bathrooms with soap and water staff will enable them to do so.
Students will be given kits which will have all of their necessary materials for the series. This will minimize sharing of materials. Kits will be kept at TNC and handed out when needed.
Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle so that they may stay hydrated throughouyt the program. Parent please make sure your child's water bottle has their name on it.
