Badges and Patches
We can help your scouts earn any of
several nature or environmental science badges. Though hands-on activities,
games, and hikes through the woods your scouts won't realize that they're learning. One
badge usually takes a minimum of 1.5 hours. All programs can be done inside and
outside. Individual badges/patches that can be completed here will be highlighted in
Green.

Animals:
How do animals differ from each other? Discover what animals occur here and what they need
to survive in their wild habitats.
Earth and Sky: Discover the many wonders that occur above our heads and below our feet. Who lives where and why should we care?
Earth Is Our Home: Should we be concerned about our environment? If so, how can we care for it? What are some of the ways TNC does and how can you?
Eco-Explorer: Explore the world of plants and animals and see how they help each other, and what steps we can take to ensure their survival.
Outdoor Adventurer: Enjoy a day hike and learn how to stay safe while enjoying the outdoors.
*Plants: Explore the forest and learn how to identify the vegetation that surrounds us here at TNC through games and hands-on activities.
Ready, Set, Go Camping: Be prepared! Camping can be a fun, learn all about the do's and don't of this outdoor activity before you go on a overnight trip with your troop, family, or friends.
*Science in Action: How does science affect your life? Take a hike and take a closer look at this question as you enjoy your experience at TNC.
Science Wonders: Learn how to make paper and conduct experiments to understand how wonderful and weird science can be.
Senses: What senses do animals use and how do we use ours? Participants will realize how all living things rely on their senses for survival.

Explorer: Lean about the night sky, from the planets and constellations to
the moons changing face.
Watching Wildlife: How do humans have an impact on animals? Answer this question as we study the various forms of creatures found in the woods of Tenafly.
Water Everywhere: Explore an aquatic habitat through the use of identification guides, and collection equipment. Participants will learn about the different adaptations and life cycles of the species they find.

Camp
Together: Be prepared! Camping can be a fun, learn all about the do's and
don't of this outdoor activity before you go on a overnight trip with your troop, family,
or friends.
Earth Connections: Discover the forests layers as you learn how to identify plants and trees, and find out what a tree's ring can teach you.
Eco-Action: Start by taking action. Should we be concerned about our environment? If so, how can we care for it? What are some of the ways TNC does and how can you?
Finding Your Way: In the end participants will understand how to use a map and a compass to find their way around. While learning that this skill can be used everywhere from hiking in the woods to going to the mall.
Frosty Fun: Enjoy the outdoors when it is cold outside. Learn about all the fun activities that can be done in the snow.
Hiker: Take a hike at TNC, learn how to be safe while enjoying the outdoors, and have a good time.
Outdoor Creativity: Learn how nature has and still can inspire creativity in you and others.
**Outdoor Fun: Learn how to build a fire, while learning safety measures. Then everyone can enjoy the warm blaze while you hear stories, sing songs, and roast marshmallows.
Plants and Animals: Explore the world of plants and animals and see how they interact, as you go on a scavenger hunt. Then determine how big a part plants and animals play in a person's everyday life.
Rocks Rock: Located on the palisades you can find all three types of rocks here at TNC. Learn why they all occur here and they can tell us about our planet.

Your Outdoor Surroundings: Take a hike, and enjoy the outdoors. Participants will have fun as they walk the grounds of TNC and observe how they interact with the organisms around them.

All About Birds:
This
badge can be completed
here at TNC while your scout learns what makes a
bird a bird. Through games and hands on activities participants will learn what attributes
birds share with each other.
Backpacking: Take a hike, and enjoy the outdoors. Participants will have fun as they walk the grounds of TNC and observe how they interact with the organisms around them. In the end participants will understand how to use a map and a compass to find their way around.
Camping: Be prepared! Camping can be a fun, learn all about the do's and don't of this outdoor activity before you go on a overnight trip with your troop, family, or friends.
Digging Through the Past: Located on the palisades you can find all three types of rocks here at TNC. Learn why they all occur here and they can tell us about our planet.
Eco-Action: Explore an aquatic habitat through the use of identification guides, and collection equipment. Participants will learn about the different adaptations and life cycles of the species they find.
High Adventure: Groups practice listening skills to complete problem-solving activities. Using both their physical and mental abilities they learn how to communicate effectively with each other.
Orienteering:
In the end participants will understand how to use a map and a
compass to find their way around.
Outdoor Survival: What are the “rules of three”? Through hands-on activities and building a shelter, participants learn what to do if they get lost in the woods and ways to help themselves.
Wildlife: How do humans have an impact on animals? Answer this question as we study the various forms of creatures found in the woods of Tenafly.
