We can help your scouts earn any of several nature or environmental science badges. Through hands-on activities, games, and hikes through the woods, your scouts won't realize that they're learning!
Most programs average 1.5 hours, but check the program you’re interested in for the specific time it takes. All programs are marked with the season(s) they are best done in. All programs can be done inside and outside.

Earth and Sky: Discover the many wonders that occur above our heads and below our feet. Who lives where and why should we care? This Try-It can be done in any season. Length = 1.5 hours. Earth Is Our Home: Should we be concerned about our environment? If so, how can we care for it? What are some of the ways TNC does and how can you? This Try-It must run from day into evening and can be done in any season. Length = 2 hours. Eco-Explorer: Explore the world of plants and animals and see how they help each other, and what steps we can take to ensure their survival. This Try-It can be done in any season. Length = 1.5 hours. äOutdoor Adventurer: Enjoy a day hike and learn how to stay safe while enjoying the outdoors. This Try-It can be done in any season. Length = 2 hours. Plants: Explore the forest and learn how to identify the vegetation that surrounds us here at TNC through games and hands-on activities. You’ll plant your own seeds to take home and watch their progress! This Try-It is best done in Spring-Fall. Length = 2 hours. äReady, Set, Go Camping: Be prepared! Camping can be a fun, learn all about the do's and don't of this outdoor activity before you go on a overnight trip with your troop, family, or friends. This Try-It can be done in any season. Length = 1.5 hours (2 hours if done with a campfire). |
Science in Action: How does science affect your life? Take a hike and take a closer look at this question as you enjoy your experience at TNC. This Try-It can be done in any season. Length = 1.5 hours. Science Wonders: Learn how to make paper and conduct experiments to understand how wonderful and weird science can be. This Try-It can be done in any season. Length = 2 hours. Senses: What senses do animals use and how do we use ours? Participants will realize how all living things rely on their senses for survival. This Try-It can be done in any season. Length = 1.5 hours. Space Explorer: Learn about the night sky, from the planets and constellations to the moons changing face. This Try-It is best done in winter, and at least 2 hours after sunset. Length = 1.5 hours (2 hours if done with a campfire).

While learning that this skill can be used everywhere from hiking in the woods to going to the mall. This badge can be done in any season. Length = 2 hours. Frosty Fun: Enjoy the outdoors when it is cold outside. Learn about all the fun activities that can be done in the snow. This badge can only be done in winter when snow is present. Length = 1.5 hours. äOutdoor Cook: Being outdoors works up an appetite! Learn how to prepare meals for a variety of hiking and camping situations, and enjoy your efforts. This program can be done in any season. Length = 2 hours. Outdoor Creativity: Learn how nature has and still can inspire creativity in you and others. This program can be done in any season. Length = 2 hours. äOutdoor Fun: Learn how to build a fire, while learning safety measures. Then everyone can enjoy the warm blaze while you hear stories, sing songs, and roast marshmallows. You must complete the first activity of this badge during a troop meeting. This badge can be done in any season. Length = 2 hours. äPlants and Animals: Explore the world of plants and animals and see how they interact, as you go on a scavenger hunt. Then determine how big a part plants and animals play in a person's everyday life. This badge can be done in any season. Length = 2 hours. |

All About Birds:

badge can be completed
here at TNC while your scout learns what makes a
bird a bird. Through games and hands on activities participants will learn what attributes
birds share with each other.
Backpacking: Take a hike, and enjoy the outdoors. Participants will have fun as they walk the grounds of TNC and observe how they interact with the organisms around them. In the end participants will understand how to use a map and a compass to find their way around.
Camping: Be prepared! Camping can be a fun, learn all about the do's and don't of this outdoor activity before you go on a overnight trip with your troop, family, or friends.

High Adventure: Groups practice
listening skills to complete problem-solving activities. Using both
their physical and mental abilities they learn how to communicate
effectively with each other.
Orienteering: In the end participants will understand how to use a map and a compass to find their way around.
Outdoor Survival: What are the “rules of three”? Through hands-on activities and building a shelter, participants learn what to do if they get lost in the woods and ways to help themselves.
