Natural History

Curacao's coral reefs are in pristine condition and are home to hundreds of coral, fish, and other critters. Coral thrives along their underwater volcanic slopes, nurturing colonies of delightful color and beauty in waters clear and blue. Curacao is the perfect place for shore diving and snorkeling.

Students of the sea will find ideal surroundings, shallow calm easy to dive sites just feet from shore; seasoned scuba divers will find sloping walls, wrecks and reefs to fulfill their dive adventure expectations.

Whether you are comfortably settled on a beach chair, strolling along the picturesque waterfront or trekking intrepidly through the underbrush, you're certain to come into contact with several of Curaçao's native birds.

More than 168 bird species have been registered on Curaçao. At least 51 of these species are breeding birds, 71 are migrants from North America, 19 are visitors from South America and 19 are seabirds. The most common of the native birds include the Trupial, a black bird with a bright orange underbelly and white swatches on its wings, and the Cuchubi, the Caribbean mocking bird.

Lion's Dive Hotel & Beach Resort

Snorkeling or Diving?

Our boat trips will be taken with Ocean Encounters, the 5-start PADI dive shop. Certified dive masters will lead a snorkeling group and a SCUBA diving group, depending on the preference of our participants. Everyone will explore the reef in a way that is comfortable for them. The instructor and guides will help everyone feel secure.
