After School Series

The following programs are specially developed for students aged 21/2 to 12 years old who like to learn about the wonders of the natural world.  Professional environmental educators will guide your child both outside along the trails and indoors in the Education Pavilion and Redfield Building.  Learn about the animals of New Jersey, create natural art projects, discover what our backyards have to offer.

Children must be registered for the appropriate age group , no exceptions!  Programs are for registrants only; Pre-K parents may stay, but no siblings. Children must be signed in and out each day.  Students need to be dressed for the weather and should have on old clothes and sturdy shoes (no open toes or heals).

Afternoon Explorers

After school Nature Programs run here at the nature center.  With different themes each season.
Autumn Sessions are usually held in October/November.
Winter Sessions are usually held in February/March.
Spring Sessions are usually held in April/May.

This program can also be brought to your school as an afterschool series.

Little Naturalists

Afternoon Explorers

4-week after school series

Coming this fall

Children will explore the Nature Center while learning about the plants and animals that inhabit our natural world. Topics include: Bugs and Beasties: Explore the creepy crawly world of insects and their cousins; Giants of the Forest: Discover the differences between some of the nature centers’ tallest residents; Decomposition: Dig into the natural world under our feet and help create more nutrient rich soil; Chickens Aren't the Only Ones: Learn about this egg-citing animal and others with similar traits.  Students should dress in sturdy, close-toed footwear.  Program is held rain or shine.  Space is limited and pre-registration is required.

Series fee: Members $40 / Nonmembers $60
Individual sessions: Members $15 / Nonmembers $20 

To Register: Registration will be accepted by order received.  TNC reserves the right to cancel, reschedule, or change programs as needed. All fees are per person unless otherwise stated.

  • By Mail:
    When registering for a program by mail please complete a registration form include the title of the program, number of adults, the number of children, your complete address and a phone number.  Make checks payable to Tenafly Nature Center.

Refund Policy:
We can offer refunds only if the program is canceled or rescheduled by Tenafly Nature Center due to insufficient registration, bad weather or related causes.  Due to the number of registrations received for our numerous programs, we are no longer able to provide refunds due to changes in individual schedules, illness, or other personal reasons.
No refunds will be given after the series begins.
